Tasting note: Sassicaïa, Tenuta San Guido, 2018

Comments = Sassicaia is a true icon, the first “Super Tuscan” (one of the first reds produced in Italy like the great Bordeaux wines. The first vintage was produced in 1968). This 2018 vintage is no exception to the rule. Slightly less opulent than the 2015 vintage, it is nonetheless one of the very best recent vintages. It is both powerful and incredibly fine, these tannins only need to be polished over time, the aromatic expression is just as powerful but precise and with many nuances. The finish is long, deep, velvety and totally bewitching. There is no doubt that this wine is an exceptional wine, an excellent investment and a true work of art.

Tasting note: ‘Barca-Velha’, Casa Ferreirinha, 2011

Comments = A true legend! Totally lives up to its reputation! This wine still displays a vibrant acidity (despite being from 2011) together with a powerful tannic structure. However, its balance aromas-acidity-tannins is exceptional and its finish is long, persistant and complex centered around aromas of dark fruits, tobacco and hints of cedar. This wine is very rare because it has only been produced in 20 exceptional vintages since 1952 (and in limited quantity each time). Therefore, if you have a chance to get your hand on one bottle, you will be among the lucky few who can enjoy this true portuguese treasure.

Tasting note: ‘Second Flight’, Screaming Eagle, 2018

Comments = Stunning! I was impressed with the level of freshness and precise acidity this wine can display given its tannic structure and great aromatic intensity. Its aroma-acidity and aroma-tannin balance is just perfect. On the palate it is powerful, complex and deploys many varied nuances of fruit with floral notes and delicate aromas derived from vanilla. The finish is incredibly long and persistent with a very subtle mineral touch. This wine has great aging potential and I strongly recommend letting it age for at least 15 or 20 years before opening it in order to appreciate the true potential of this masterpiece.

Tasting note: ‘Clos du Mesnil’, Krug, 2008

Comments = This superb Blanc de Blancs continues to express all its freshness and precise acidity. The overall balance of this 2008 wine remains stunning years later. Aromas of citrus, biscuits and brioche are complemented wonderfully by acidity and a lingering bubble. Its finish is very long and persistent. Undoubtedly, one of the greatest Champagnes that I have had the chance to taste for a unique and exceptional 2008 vintage which allowed the full potential of this single-plot champagne to be expressed. This is a truly mythical and timeless Champagne.

Tasting note: ‘Pingus’, Dominio de Pingus, 2020

Comments = Concentration and elegance are the key words to describe the beauty of this wine. An exceptional wine, produced in small quantities and extremely sought after. An aromatic mouth centered around the characteristic aromas of Tempranillo (cherry, fig, dill) with hints of spices accompanied by subtle and perfectly integrated woody notes. A long, deep, captivating and slightly velvety finish that evolves each time you taste a new sip. It is undoubtedly a master piece that rivals the greatest wines.

Tasting note: Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva, Giuseppe Quintarelli, 2011

Comments = Stunning! The 2011 vintage is a mythical “riserva” from Quintarelli, it is one of the most sought after Valpolicella vintages of the 2010s from this producer. Its aromas have evolved to become more tertiary and be centered on chocolate, cocoa and liquorice. With this wine, we are in the perfection of what man and nature can produce. This wine is undoubtedly a very good financial investment as well as a real treat for connoisseurs.
