The ‘Abymes Cru’ is a named cru (click here to learn more about the notion of Cru) just south of Chambery in the Savoie region of France. This named cru represents one of the best location from the AOC Vin de Savoie. The vineyard of this appellation extends over the communes of Apremont, Les Marches, Myans (Savoie) and Chapareillan (Isère) around the emblematic Mont Granier.

Its emblematic dry white wines are made from the autoctonous Jacquère grape variety. However, recently, experimentations have been made around Chardonnay to make white wines.

Abymes Cru soils

This AOC (click here to learn more about the notion of AOC) is located on a chaos of scree from Mont Granier and glacial moraines. The soils consist of a pile of rocks (due to the collapse of Mont Granier) and marls. The place was nicknamed ‘Les Abymes’ (which means abyss in English) because it was considered for a long time to be unsuitable for any culture.

Abymes Cru food-wine pairing

The wines of this appellation are often associated with regional dishes such as diots, hen with rice, raclette, tartiflette and Savoyard fondue. They also go perfectly with river fish such as trout and seafood.
