Bricco del Drago label

In Barolo, Barbaresco, Langhe and Roero (all sub-regions of the Italian Piedmont), the best vineyards sites are often referred to as Bricco or Söri.

Bricco (or Bric in the local dialect of Piedmont) is a superior site on the higher part of the hill. It generally indicates a vineyard in steep gradient at the top of a hill.

This term was first used on a wine label by Luciano Giacomi in 1969 for his Bricco del Drago, a blend of Dolcetto and Nebbiolo grape varieties from Alba.

Since then, this term has been extensively used for the other wines of Piemonte.
