‘Arrachage’ is a French term meaning ripping out vines from the soil.
The ‘prime d’arrachage’ is a bonus paid to French (and other European countries) wineries for participating in the vine pull scheme. This campaign had a tremedous impact of the southern French landcape from the late 1980s, particularly in the Languedoc region.
