a) Presentation
The Demeter certification is a certification that requires having obtained the AB (Agriculture Biologique) certification beforehand.
Demeter certification is checked each year, either by internal Demeter stakeholders, or by external inspection bodies approved and mandated by Demeter and which are AGROCERT, ALPES CONTRÔLES, CERTIPAQ AND ECOCERT.
b) Main guidelines
Demeter is managed by international auditors who do not necessarily take into account the constraints of the field (standards sometimes a little rigid)
– the wine that has obtained this label comes from grapes grown in accordance with the rhythm of the seasons and the lunar calendar
– the soil of the vine has been treated according to so-called “natural” composting or fertilization practices (based, for example, on cow horn dung)
c) An example of a certified winery in Bordeaux
The Domaine Décombe in Bordeaux is an example of a vineyard certified Demeter (+ AB Label).
