Manganese is a soil nutrient essential for vine growth but it needs to be available in very low quantities otherwise it will be detrimental to the vine.
Manganese deficiency may cause leaf yellowing. This deficiency occurs most commonly on alkaline soils high in limestone.
Acid soils which are poorly drained and high in manganese can be toxic to the vine, reducing both vine growth and yield.
